Botched lung operation leads to paralysis, death for woman

Claim against thoracic surgeon for post-surgical paraplegia following a thoracotomy: Our client, a 53 year old female, underwent a thoracotomy for removal of a cancerous spot on her lung. During the operation, the surgeon used some hemostatic agents to control bleeding. Post-operatively, our client suffered paraplegia when these agents compressed her spinal cord. Our client died from cancer several months after the surgery, but the case proceeded against the surgeon as a survival action. The case settled in February 2003. | client awarded: $650,000
