5 docs disciplined by state board

Three Tucson doctors have been reprimanded by the Arizona Medical Board and two have had their practices restricted by the board.

One doctor has asked to inactivate his medical license because he has relapsed into undisclosed substance abuse.

● Dr. Noel A. Yannessa, a diagnostic radiologist, has agreed to a written reprimand by the board. Yannessa is a Temple University School of Medicine graduate.

The action came after a settlement in a malpractice case involving a 55-year-old woman he treated in 2003.

The board said Yannessa failed to detect an obvious significant pathology of the spine on an MRI and that the “delay in diagnosis delayed treatment of (the woman’s) acute spinal cord injury.”

The woman sustained permanent, severe spinal cord injury and disability, the board said in its letter of reprimand, dated Feb. 9.   Read More…
